Sun With Moon / 10:45 AM

Yu Wen and I finally went on our Sun With Moon date on Saturday night! We've talked about it for months and have been putting it on hold for so long already. We decided on going to the one at The Central and it was definitely a good choice! Aside from the fact that we were SO blur and did not realize that it was the last day of the Singapore River Festival and we could have gone on the river taxi for free. I doubt I would pay to sit on it but if it's free, why not right?? And also we missed out on the illusionist performance where a duo performed 15 illusions in five minutes which was just going on next to the restaurant!

Anyway, blurness aside, I had a good time catching up with the girl. There were so many things on the menu and we couldn't decide on what to eat so we decided to pick dishes that are recommended. So we started our dinner with a rainbow roll (crab & mango sushi roll with avocado) which was good, but I think there could have been more crab in it.. Followed by a teppanyaki dish of which I cannot remember its name! But it was basically half a potato with 7 skewers consisting of meat, mushroom, capsicum, etc poked into it. As interesting as it looked, it tasted pretty mediocre.. Or maybe it was because we were busy talking and it got cold.

My favourite was the beef kamameshi with raw egg! It's traditional steamed seasoned rice pot - pretty similar to claypot rice. I've heard about this dish before because it's presented covered with an hour glass on top! So once all the sand has transferred from to the bottom of the hour glass, then the kamameshi is ready to be eaten. Yums! Lastly for dessert, we had tofu cheesecake and murasaki imo monburan (purple sweet potato with water chestnut pie). The tofu cheesecake was presented with a little cage thingie but the waitress took it away after she laid the plate down on the table so we didn't get to have any pictures of it! Boo. The latter was a yummy surprise. The tartlet shell had custard, water chestnut and cream laced by the purple sweet potato. Mmm.

I guess the plus point about this restaurant is their presentation of food and good service. The food arrived really quickly after we had placed our orders, and the waiters somehow always appear just as I had finished my cup of green tea. We were lucky (and quite surprised) that the place wasn't very packed that night and that is how we ended up spending our whole night chatting there without even realizing how fast time was passing by. We also went by the G-Max Reverse Bungy and the new GX-5 Xtreme Swing before heading back.. Watching the people scream brings back memories of our own reverse bungy back in 2007 haha.

Eh I just realized my whole post sounded more like a food review. Oops. Anyway, it's a nice place to splurge at once in a while, with nice ambience to boot. Next time I'd try the sukiyaki. :D

Incoherent / 9:03 AM

Subject registration at 1.30pm today. My final semester! Getting a headache thinking about it.

I have 2 totally different timetables planned and I don't know which to choose! Either way it'll be a 4 day week for me. Plan A is to take Data Mining, Ordinary Differential Equations and Mathematical Economics; Plan B is to take Sampling and Survey, Money and Banking, Spanish II and Forensic Science.

So Plan A is my "boring" option and Plan B is my "more fun" option. Plan A is like all maths stuff.. Again. But.. Data Mining might/should be quite important? Plan B has more subs that I'm interested in.. I think.

As you can see, I'm very confused! Bleah.

Oh, and is it just me or is the wireless@SG service really bad?!? I can't even login with the password they gave me so I can never access the internet on my iPod touch when I'm outside. So. Freaking. Annoying. I've tried registering a few times and it always never works. Grrr.

And lastly.. H1N1, go away (or don't spread at the place we're traveling to) soon please please please! I want my vacation! Our 8th week of internship is coming to and end and we'll have only 4 more weeks to go. Can't wait for this to end man.

The Time Traveler's Wife / 5:36 PM

Whee, I am very happy so I am spreading my joy everywhere! I just saw the trailer of The Time Traveler's Wife! It's my favourite book of all time (but err, I never knew they were going to make it into a movie until today), a beautiful yet heartbreaking story that had so much emotions weaved into it - love, pain, joy, disappointment. It was hard to put the book down once I started reading it.. So it suffices to say that I hope I don't bawl like a baby watching this movie.

Watch the trailer HERE!

It'll be out on August 14th in the States! I wonder when it'll be out here. Hopefully around the same time as well. Unlike Up which has been out in the States for nearly 3 weeks but will only be released in Singapore on 6th of August! Ish. :(

Durians! / 3:32 PM

It's durian season now! Which explains why there are durian stalls popping up everywhere now haha. I love eating durians, and thankfully the bf shares the same taste buds as me! Unlike Lilo who is the odd one out in the family who does not know how to appreciate durians *AHEM*

Guess how much these 4 durians cost us! We walked pass the stall and saw that there was a 3 for $10 promotion but it was just our luck that they changed the offer to 4 for $10 when we turned around to get a better look/sniff at the durians hehehe. Too cheap to resist. :D And the stall owners were really nice too, they packed the durians and cling wrapped them nicely so that we could bring them back without the smell stinking up the train and bus.

Well the durians made it through the 45 minutes train journey but once we got on the bus, the bus driver caught smell of the durian and was all "WHO BROUGHT DURIANS?" repeatedly while walking up and down the bus, followed by "I CAN SMELL DURIANS" in his grumpy mandarin which was rather hilarious so in the end we got off the bus and ate the durians somewhere in the middle of all the HDBs. :S

The TWO of us gobbled up all 4 durians in about 20 minutes! So so so yummy. And it was also the first time I felt so bloated from eating durians!

BUT.. After that I suffered from overdose of durians and couldn't stop hiccuping. Really really loudly. On the bus. And I couldn't stop laughing too. It was as if I was drunk. From durians. *hides face in shame*

Anyway, surprisingly neither of us had sore throats the next day.. Which means we can buy more durians to eat next week! YAY! :D :D :D

la vie en rose / 4:55 PM

Taking a good break from reading the research paper that our supervisor gave us. Mind boggling and sleep inducing with all the jargons. And so.. We are enhancing our knowledge by playing Word Challenge and Geo Challenge! :X

I created a collage of our dinner date last weekend hehe. We went back to our fav restaurant again! There are many mixed reviews about this place, especially about the authenticity of the food.. But well, we ain't no French food experts! I love the casual setting of the warmly-lit restaurant. This time we had to wait about 15-20 minutes for a table since we arrived pretty late. We just spent the waiting time deciding on what to order heh.

I loved the pan fried foie gras (about to salivate just thinking about it) and the mussels in white wine sauce (so fresh!). Our steak was cooked to perfection and the risotto was really creamy. Yums! The dessert was good too! We shared a giant profiterole with vanilla ice-cream and hot chocolate sauce. And throughout the whole dinner we had 2 glasses of red wine, 1 glass of white, 1 dessert wine (and a bottle of expensive sparkling water lol).

Luckily I wore a flowy dress so I could eat to my tummy's content and not worry about looking like I'm pregnant after that. :P

iPaLs Reunion / 1:08 PM

Whee! Last Friday night the iPaLs had dinner together at Waraku. We had a Japanese-style private room to ourselves which was rather cosy! Service was questionable especially since I had to request for a green tea refill countless times before I actually got it, and also our waitress served one of the mains wrongly only to realize it later AND still had the nerve to sound my friend for eating it without realizing that it was the wrong dish. Geez.

It was exactly 2 years ago on that day that we left for Mongolia together and spent 3 happy weeks there! Ok, work was tough. We were free labour and the weather was unpredictable. We ate the same food for lunch every single day. But it still brings good memories! E.g. first time horse riding, first time eating authentic Mongolian food. Speaking of which, who the heck came up with Mongolian BBQ?? They don't eat that in Mongolia! What they really eat is a lot of beef & mutton. Vegetables are very expensive there. And it's very hard to find chicken & pork meat there too!

Haha gosh I remember the first time we had a taste of their food made for us by the locals.. The mutton had a very strong smell to it so not everyone could stomach it down. Bottom line is, we needed a little getting used to before we could truly enjoy the food. I remember liking their milk tea but I can't really remember how it tastes like anymore.. :( But what I miss most from Mongolia is the boortsog.. It's a type of deep fried snack which u dip in sugar before eating. It reminds me of churros!

Anyway, only 11 out of 16 for us made it for the dinner. Evelyn's in Paris, Guat Sim's in Germany, Kanni is recuperating from her surgery, Dawn was busy and Lina has been MIA! We're gonna meet up again in August hopefully :)
